Digital Canon Rebel help.. too many blurry pictures!?

I've had my digital Rebel a couple of months now, and I've been teaching myself how to use it. But it seems like no matter what setting I have it on, most of the pictures come out blurry, especially when I use my zoom lens. I am not using a tripod b/c I move around alot, photographing birds and nature. I need some tips please!
